Sustainability

Our environment, social, and governance (ESG) journey

At BDO Canada, sustainability is an investment in the strength of our culture, the resilience of our business, and the future of our planet.

With the establishment of a dedicated ESG team, we are investing in the development of a comprehensive ESG strategy.

To ensure our strategy prioritizes what matters most for our people, we consulted with internal members of our team with representation across geography, influence, diversity, and industry. We also connected with clients, suppliers, academics, and BDO Global for additional insights to inform our strategy.

Knowing that sustainability is not a destination, we are on a journey to integrate evolving ESG risks and opportunities into our business operations to support the transition to a more sustainable planet, create an inclusive and diverse workplace, and give back to our communities.

In doing so, our goal is to be a leading professional services firm that inspires an unstoppable sustainability movement in Canada.

Our approach to sustainability

Our approach to sustainability focuses on three main pillars—environmental, social, and governance—and is in line with best practices and the expectation of our stakeholders. Sustainability is a strategic priority at BDO Canada and is an essential part of our business strategy and action plan.

BDO is committed to a sustainability journey to help us pave the road to net zero. We and other member firms that are part of the BDO Global network have set a goal to halve our emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

We are dedicated to creating an inclusive and equitable work environment that supports the health and well-being of our people and communities, with a focus on:
  • Dignity and equality
  • Health and well-being
  • Skills for the future
  • Community involvement and social vitality

Ensure our firm governance structure is resilient, while building trust and serving in the interest of all stakeholders. We focus on:
  • Ethical behaviour
  • Risk and opportunity oversight
  • A quality of governing body

Our connection to community

Across Canada, our people volunteer to help a wide variety of worthwhile organizations—whether we do so as one firm, one office, or on an individual basis.

From nationwide programs to local service initiatives, BDO leverages the scope of our national network to pursue large-scale initiatives, as well as support individual offices and employees as they devote time and energy to causes that are most important to their communities.
