Drive Away Hunger

BDO is proud to partner with FCC in our annual Drive Away Hunger campaign. For more than 15 years, the firm has actively raised awareness about food insecurity across the country and lead fundraising efforts to help drive away hunger in our communities.

We've donated more than 8.5 million meals in food and financial support benefiting food banks across Canada—almost $2.7 million to date.

The concept for the campaign originated in 2004 when an FCC employee drove an open-cab tractor trailer around Ontario for eight days to collect almost 60,000 pounds of food. The campaign has now grown to become the largest employee-led food drive in Canada collecting over 60 million meals. According to Food Banks Canada (FBC), there are over one million visits to food banks across Canada every month.

Looking to get involved in your community? We've provided some ideas below:

  1. Spread awareness about your local food bank needs.
  2. Organize community fundraisers.
  3. Donate your time and talent.
  4. Make a financial donation if you are able.
  5. Give a non-perishable food item.

Goes the Distance

Our Goes the Distance initiative is an internal initiative that provides an opportunity to raise awareness about food insecurity, encourage donations, and inspire others to join the cause.

During the month of September, we encourage participants to choose a physical, mental, or academic activity and challenge one another to 'go the distance' while collecting donations to help drive away hunger.

Set the Pace

At our annual Evolve conference, partners from across the firm participate together in a charity run as a fundraising effort to 'set the pace' for our Drive Away Hunger campaign.

The concept is simple yet impactful. Participants garner support from friends, family, colleagues, and even strangers, who pledge donations based on the distance they cover during the run. Each stride represents a step toward a brighter future, a future where no one has to go to bed hungry.

"They say many hands make light work. This couldn't be more true when getting involved in a food drive like Drive Away Hunger. When we work together as colleagues, we can surely make a difference and provide a valuable and lifesaving service to those who need it most."

"Participating in fundraising activities through Drive Away Hunger allows me to make a difference in my own way. Whether collecting donations or planning fundraising events, the food drive brings our office together for a good cause. It's a wonderful feeling being able to support our local food bank knowing the help is needed."
